Acute agitation is a behavioral emergency that is very common in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorders; it presents along a spectrum from mild to severe, with most behavioral signs consistent with mild to moderate agitation. However, if escalated, agitation poses a potential safety risk to staff and patients.
