Applications are now open for the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) Fellow position. ABEM endowed this fellowship in 2015 to offer a unique developmental opportunity to emergency physicians who are early-career health science scholars and future leaders in medicine and public health.

Applicant Requirements

The next fellowship is for a two-year period starting in summer 2025. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Certified by ABEM or be ABEM board eligible.
  • Must hold an MD or DO degree.
  • Two-to-ten years out from completion of post-graduate work.
  • Able to commit 10-20% of their time to the fellowship for two years.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status at the time of nomination.

Application Materials

Complete application materials in electronic format are due to ABEM's Executive Administrator Nazanin Kazerani, MHA, by May 19, 2025. This allows ABEM time to generate the nomination letter that is required to go with your application. Applicants must submit:

  • An up-to-date curriculum vitae.
  • A supporting letter from the candidate's department chair, institute director, or equivalent.
  • Three letters of reference.
  • A brief one-page bio.
  • A one-page personal statement.
  • A nomination letter from a member of the NAM or the ABEM Board of Directors.
