Fellow

The American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM) has a complete list of fellowships. Questions to consider when evaluating programs and interviewing include:
- What department is the fellowship affiliated through?
- Will the program allow you to work moonlighting shifts in their emergency department or work external emergency medicine moonlighting shifts?
- What do graduates do after fellowship?
- What are the inpatient and outpatient training settings in each program?
- What patient populations does the fellowship serve?
- What are the research requirements?
Insider Advice
"ACGME changed the rules so that addiction medicine fellows cannot be mandated to work clinically in their primary specialty as part of their fellowship. Fortunately, many programs will allow you to moonlight externally, and some may even offer opportunities to moonlight as an emergency medicine attending in their emergency departments."
-Daniel Colby, MD
