Authors

Dan Mayer, MD
Dan Mayer is an experienced specialist with a demonstrated history of working in the medical practice industry and medical education. Dan has retired from the active clinical practice of Emergency Medicine. He is a former Professor of Emergency Medicine at Albany Medical College and course director of four-year longitudinal required course, Evidence Based Health Care. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) Albany, New York and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dan is an Associate Editor for MedEdPORTAL and peer reviewer for multiple medical journals. He is also author of “Essential Evidence Based Medicine” (Cambridge University Press, 2004 and 2010), “Case Studies in Emergency Medicine” (Little Brown, 1991 and 1996) and “Case Studies in Emergency Medicine” (Cambridge University Press, 2010). Dan is skilled in Medical Care Consulting, Evidence Based Medicine and Emergency Medicine and Patient Safety through reduction in medical diagnostic errors. Dan graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Carney Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Adrienne N. Malik, MD

Dr. Malik is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine (EM) at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) in Kansas City, KS, and is a core faculty member of the KU EM residency program. She received her MD from Saba University and completed her EM residency and ultrasound fellowship at DMC Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI. She currently serves as the Director of Research Training for the Department of Emergency Medicine, which includes overseeing trainee research projects and the bimonthly resident research workshop. Dr. Malik currently serves as PI for multiple investigator-initiated and industry-funded studies at KUMC and has been a member of the KU HSC IRB since 2020.
Elspeth K. Pearce, MD

Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine

Elspeth Pearce, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Pearce is the associate program director and director of simulation for the emergency medicine residency program. She also has a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine, in conjunction with the Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning, preparing and delivering longitudinal simulation curriculum for medical students. She has an interest in multimodal medical education, gamification, psychological safety in medical education, feedback, and coaching. Other interests include LGBTQ+ health disparities and reducing bias in medical education.
