Welcome to the Geriatric Emergency Medicine (GEM) Roadmap, your definitive step-by-step guide on how to succeed in GEM at every training level. GEM is a subspecialty that focuses on the care of older adults, often defined as those aged 65 and older. Older adults are susceptible to anatomic and physiological changes associated with aging, may lack the classic signs of acute diseases due to such changes, and are at rick for certain unique psychosocial issues and biomedical conditions, making their care more challenging. GEM is a rapidly growing niche in the field with ample opportunities to contribute in research, quality improvement, advocacy, and education.
