A Message from a Colleague

"It often takes time to find the right therapist for you; this is completely normal. You have your own unique background, personality, and perspective and so do the different therapists that you will come into contact with. Also, you may have specific goals for therapy that are best addressed by therapists with certain areas of expertise. It is common to try out different therapists before finding that ideal fit. We recommend trying out each therapist for a few sessions as the first session is usually focused on introductions and discussing the goals of therapy. During these initial sessions, take note of how you are feeling and whether this feels like a space that is emotionally safe, a space that can facilitate your growth, and a space that can help you reach your specific goals. It is also easiest to build that therapeutic relationship when you are not in the middle of a crisis so consider getting a therapist when you feel as if you do not need one. This way, when you are looking for help, you will have your preferred therapist ready. Good luck on your journeys of healing, discovery, and self-growth!"
