"Project BEEP”
Despite national efforts to increase buprenorphine treatment, providers report lack of education and unease with prescribing as barriers to obtaining an X-waiver or initiating buprenorphine in eligible patients. The poison center is an around-the-clock resource for healthcare providers who are seeking medical guidance on the treatment of xenobiotic exposures. Given its continuous, real-time medical consultation service, the poison center may serve as a valuable resource to guide physicians in buprenorphine initiation and handoffs. Project BEEP (Buprenorphine Enrollment and Education using the Poison center) will aim to increase dissemination of NIDA best practices for the initiation of buprenorphine treatment for OUD patients using national poison center call centers and toxicology specialists.
