Ian B.K. Martin, MD, MBA

Dr. Ian Martin is System Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Medical School and Emergency Physician-in-Chief for Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Health System. At MCW, he holds appointments as Eminent Scholar and Professor with Tenure of Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. Dr. Martin is also Professor in the Institute for Health and Equity. Before this, he served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine as well as Emergency Physician-in-Chief for West Virginia University Health System.

Before his election to the AACEM Board, Dr. Martin completed terms as Immediate Past-President, President, President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, and an At-Large Member of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) – the premier association representing researchers and educators in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Martin is also the founder and a Past-President of SAEM’s Global Emergency Medicine Academy. In 2020, he was appointed by the Mayor of Milwaukee to the City of Milwaukee Board of Health for an indefinite term. The same year, he was also appointed to the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment External Board (the Consortium on Public and Community Health), also for an indefinite term. Finally, in 2021, Dr. Martin was appointed to the Milwaukee Tennis and Education Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Martin is the 2018 recipient of the Marcus L. Martin, M.D. Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion Award by the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Martin was recently named recipient of the 2020 Drexel University College of Medicine Distinguished Alumnus Award as well as of the 2020 Georges Benjamin, M.D. Award for excellence in education, service, and research by the National Medical Association’s Emergency Medicine Section. Lastly, in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Martin was named recipient of a “Notable Heroes in Health Care” Award by BizTimes Milwaukee. Recently, members of the Class of 2023 Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) MCW-beta Chapter selected him to join them as an inductee into the prestigious AOA national honor society. In 2023, Milwaukee County honored Dr. Martin with a citation for launching Wisconsin’s first opt-out, universal, emergency department-based HIV testing program.

Jennifer Avegno

Dr. Jennifer Avegno is a New Orleans native who received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Arts in Sociology from Tulane University and her MD from LSU School of Medicine – New Orleans. She completed her residency at LSU/Charity Hospital Emergency Medicine and joined the faculty at both LSU and Tulane shortly after graduation. As an academic faculty member, Dr. Avegno served as Associate Residency Director and Director of Undergraduate Emergency Medicine Education for both LSU and Tulane Medical Schools. In 2017, she established the Division of Community Health Relations & Engagement in the LSU Section of Emergency Medicine, and as its director worked with institutional, governmental, and other community organizations to facilitate innovative programming, interdisciplinary partnerships, and improved population health outcomes. Her clinical, program, and research interests include the role of social determinants of health, particularly access and barriers to care; health equity; violence intervention/prevention; sexual assault and human trafficking; and homelessness. In 2018, she was appointed as the Director of the Health Department for the City of New Orleans, where she leads a dedicated team of public health professionals in addressing critical health needs for the community.

Lisa Moreno-Walton, MD, MS, MSCR

Louisiana State University- New Orleans

Dr. Lisa Moreno is Professor of Emergency Medicine, Director of Research, Diversity, and the Latino Scholars Program at Louisiana State University- New Orleans. She is President-elect of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and an NIH Research Scholar. Her multiple awards include the SAEM Martin Leadership Award, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Professionalism Award, CORD Distinguished Educator Award, ADIEM Outstanding Academician Award, AAMC Healthcare Executive Diversity & Inclusion Certificate, and the Order of the IFEM. The recipient of many research grants, Prof. Moreno has over 500 academic presentations, 45 publications, 6 book chapters, and 2 textbooks. Her research interests include diversity and healthcare disparities, violence prevention and treatment, and viral diseases. She has mentored over 350 students, residents and junior faculty around the world. A global health consultant and educator, she has served in over 25 countries, focusing on the development of research and elimination of healthcare disparities for women, underrepresented minorities, and the under-resourced

Peter DeBelieux

Dr. Peter DeBlieux, completed medical school at Louisiana State Health Science Center, completed internship in Internal Medicine LSUHSC Department of Medicine, residency and Chief residency in Emergency Medicine LSUHSC Charity Hospital, completed Pulmonary Critical Care fellowship LSUHSC Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at LSUHSC Charity Hospital. Former Program Director of the LSUHSC Charity Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency for ten years and former Director of Resident and Faculty Development for ten years. Appointments with both LSUHSC as Clinical Professor of Medicine and Tulane University Medical School as Clinical Professor of Surgery. Attending in Emergency Medicine and the Medical Intensive Care Unit of LSUHSC Charity Hospital for over 30 years. Former Chief Medical Officer and Director of Quality and Patient Safety at University Medical Center, New Orleans. Currently he is Chief Experience Officer at University Medical Center, New Orleans directing patient satisfaction, employee engagement and Provider engagement.

Jeffrey Elder

Dr. Jeffrey Elder is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Section of Emergency Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and serves as the Co-Director of the Division of EMS and Disaster Medicine. He is also the Medical Director for Emergency Preparedness at University Medical Center in New Orleans and EMS Medical Director for St. Tammany Fire District No. 1 (Slidell Fire). He previously served as the Director and Medical Director of New Orleans EMS. A graduate of LSU School of Medicine, Dr. Elder began his career in EMS while training as a resident in Emergency Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. While working with some of the best paramedics in the country, he learned how advances in prehospital medicine can drive in-hospital emergency medical care. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine with subspecialty board certified in Emergency Medical Services by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
