Stony Brook University Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship

We are hosting a 2 year fellowship which is flexible, tailored to the applicants career interests, that yields a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and a second certification (of the applicants choice). The second “degree” could be an MPH, and RDMS, HRIC, Red Cross Refugee Care certification, an MBA, a Masters of Medical Education, Global Health Emergencies Course, a  Masters of Public Policy, or any other valid proposal approved by the fellowship director. 
 
The possibility exists to complete a joint fellowship in International Emergency Medicine and either Ultrasound or EMS, in conjunction with our peers at Stony Brook Sono and Stony Brook EMS (inquire for details to benjamin.fombonne@stonybrookmedicine.edu) 

The fellowship is non-ACGME approved (hence the flexibility) and seeks to optimize the applicants potential to transition directly into an international career and a leadership role. The Division of International EM will prepare the fellow with close mentoring, substantial on the ground experiences, and research. Tuition and travel costs are borne by the division during the fellowship. Intensive junior faculty development will occur throughout the fellowship with effective communication skills, lecturing and teaching skills, curriculum development, and writing skills emphasized throughout the two year process. International conference presentations are an imperative. We participate in numerous educational conferences as sponsors, organizers, and presenters and the fellows will be actively engaged. We support FOAM (Free Open Access Medical Education) activities that optimize access to EM development in our partnering international institutions.

We seek highly motivated and dedicated applicants who have completed a three or four year Emergency Medicine residency in the US or Canada (ABEM or FRCPC eligible) who can be licensed to practice in New York State. The fellow will function as junior faculty during all their clinical shifts at Stony Brook University Hospital. The applicant should have a successful residency resume with strong letters of reference and a documented interest in research and publication (abstracts and peer review publications), along with evidence of international interest. The successful applicant will bring some language and cultural competency to the program.
