“Shifting Tides: Changing the Paradigm of Treating Opioid Use Disorder by Updating Resident Education"

I am a first-year Emergency Medicine resident at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center
interested in building a career in academic Emergency Medicine. Currently, my goals are to
contribute to the ongoing research regarding improving care for patients suffering from Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Training at the busiest New York City public hospital in the underserved neighborhoods of the South Bronx, I am uniquely positioned to experience the difficulties of treating overwhelming numbers of patients suffering from OUD with minimal resources. My goal in residency is to improve how we treat OUD in the South Bronx by utilizing resources in the community to help bridge patients from acute treatment in the Emergency Department to continued, long-term treatment that is conducive to their lifestyle.
