SAEM19 Red Rock Hike. Wilderness medicine continues to grow into a robust academic subspecialty that requires a unique skill set and offers the opportunity for emergency physicians to provide improvised medical care. This afternoon hike at Red Rock Canyon National Park will give attendees a chance to immerse themselves in the natural world and fuel their wellness to better enable their ability to provide quality care to their patients. The park is a maze of canyons and peaks, known for its spectacular natural beauty, rugged red rock formations, desert vegetation and spectacular vistas around every bend. (Tuesday, May 14, 2019)

Blackout Dinner. Blackout Dining in the Dark is the newest and most unique venue in Las Vegas, where diners experience a multi-course meal in an environment without lighting. It’s a journey of the senses where particular attention is paid to flavors and textures and the sense of touch, hearing, taste and smell are heightened. In this one-of-a-kind environment, food, drinks, and dinner conversation become a brand new adventure. (Thursday, May 16, 2019)

SAEM19 MedWAR. MedWAR (Medical Wilderness Adventure Race) is an event created by a pre-existing nonprofit organization (NAEAR; North American Educational Adventure Racing) designed to teach and test wilderness medicine knowledge and hands-on skills in a team competition environment through adventure racing. Teams of three healthcare providers at any skill level (residents, medical students, attending physicians, mid-career, nurses, techs) use map-and-compass orienteering navigation to arrive a series of checkpoints in the wilderness. Wednesday, May 15

SAEM Jeopardy. Come learn more about the cutting-edge field of sex and gender medicine and cheer for your favorite teams as they compete against other prominent academicians to answer jeopardy-style questions on sex and gender.

Plenary Session. Immediately following the keynote address, attend the plenary session presentations of the top six abstracts representing the most ground-breaking research in academic emergency medicine.

AWAEM/ADIEM Luncheon. The AWAEM/ADIEM Luncheon is an excellent opportunity to network with old friends and new, explore joint issues, and learn about the hottest topics in emergency departments. This event sells out each year, so register early.

SimWars. The Simulation Academy is proud to bring the biggest and best SimWars in emergency medicine to SAEM18! Watch residency teams take on intense, highly complex patients in a simulated emergency department environment designed to challenge every aspect of emergency patient care. We promise... You have never experienced anything quite like SimWars 2018.

SAEM Master Scholars. Three Master Scholars will moderate never-before-presented oral abstracts of the highest quality, in three distinct topic areas pertinent to emergency care. These Master Scholar Sessions will be followed by a state-of-the-art “Master Scholar Update” on current and future research opportunities in the topic areas.

SAEM Professor Rounds.
 Specially selected e-poster presenters will provide synopses of their study findings while “The Professors,” led by expert facilitator, 2018-19 SAEM President, Dr. Steve Bird, provides commentary and leads a lively post-presentation open discussion. This session will kick off the e-posters session and will include refreshments.

SAEM Education Summit (SAEMES). This exciting all-day event highlights best practices and cutting-edge innovation in education across emergency medicine. Mixing didactics, innovations, and research abstracts throughout the day, this session is bound to provide insights and inspiration to every level of medical educator as they look to build and innovate the experience for their learners.

Speed Mentoring. Meet with faculty leaders in medical education, career development, and academic research in quick-fire mentoring sessions designed to answer your questions about academic emergency medicine and offer helpful career advice.

Thursday, May 16

Lion’s Den 2019. Pitch your research idea to the Lion’s Den panel—a group of experienced emergency medicine researchers who, in the spirit of the popular television show “Shark Tank,” will critically discuss your project and consider investing in you and your research idea through mentorship opportunities.

Medical Student Symposium. Provides an overview of emergency medicine  and in-depth discussion of the process of applying for an EM residency position. There will be specific discussions about clerkships, away rotations, personal statements, the match process, and interviews. There will also be ample time for questions and discussions during a lunch with EM Program Directors and Clerkship Directors, along with a panel of resident representatives of EM organizations. The Residency and Fellowship Fair (which showcases many of the EM programs in the country) will immediately follow.

Chief Resident Forum. Engage with senior leaders to develop strategies for overcoming challenges and developing leadership, wellness, and time management skills. This session features didactic presentations, interactive sessions, panel discussions, and networking sessions with resident and senior leaders in emergency medicine administration, education, and research.

Residency & Fellowship Fair. Explore residency and fellowship programs from across the nation, meet with current residents and fellows, ask questions, seek application and interview advice...all in one place! Medical schools from every region will be at this high-energy, packed event to showcase their programs and help residents select the one that is the best fit.  

Dodgeball. Last year we transformed a basic ballroom into THE most amazing dodgeball court ever, complete with bleachers, hot dogs, and cold suds… And we’re doing it again for SAEM19! Be sure to stop by and watch residents take on the SAEM Board of Directors for the title of 2019 Dodgeball Champs. The winners receive their very own, private VIP area at the RAMS Party!

SAEM's 30th Anniversary Party, hosted by RAMS. RAMS is throwing a party for SAEM’s 30th anniversary and it’s going to be nothing short of spectacular! We’ve booked 1 OAK Nightclub — one of the sexiest, swankiest, most sought out hotspots in Las Vegas — for a private celebration on Thursday, May 16, with all our SAEM19 friends. This will be the experience that is literally what your friends think of when you tell them you were partying in Vegas: live DJ, open bar, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting set against a visually stunning aesthetic that fuses upscale, avant-garde New York style and the flash, glitter, and club culture of classic Las Vegas.

Friday, May 17

SonoGames®. The Academy of Emergency Ultrasound (AEUS) is bringing in experts from across the nation to craft the ultimate emergency ultrasound competition for residents. This year residents’ knowledge and skills of point-of-care ultrasound will be tested like never before. We can’t say too much (it’s top secret!); you’ll just have to be there to find out! 

Throughout the Week, May 14-17

Clinical Images Exhibit. This popular exhibit displays the best original, high-quality clinical images relevant to the practice of emergency medicine, selected from more than more than 100 submitted images. Residents are invited to participate in the Visual Diagnosis portion of the contest. Winners receive a one-year membership in SAEM, subscriptions to Academic Emergency Medicine and AEM Education and Training (AEM E&T) journals, a free registration to attend SAEM19 and more!

RAMS Hangout. The SAEM RAMS Wellness and Resilience Committee is proud to sponsor an area for Residents and Medical Students (RAMS) to hang out during SAEM19 in Las Vegas! The RAMS Hangout will be conveniently located inside the exhibit hall and will be available during all exhibit hall hours.

Medical Student Ambassador Program. Each year enthusiastic and responsible medical students from around the country to work directly with SAEM leadership to assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of SAEM’s annual meeting. This group of “medical student ambassadors” serves as the primary volunteer force at the annual meeting and receives several benefits for their contribution, including a waiver of their registration fee, and a personalized letter of thanks from the Program Committee Chair to their deans.
