Simulation Academy Awards
2024 Awards: CLOSED
Please help us recognize individuals who are making a difference in the field of simulation. Nominators may fill out the Simulation Award Form to provide a nomination statement (300 word max). Candidates may optionally submit a CV and up to two letters of nomination by filling out the Simulation Award Form.
Nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards will open January 3, 2024 and close February 9, 2024.
Award eligibility
- EM physician resident, simulation fellow, or faculty member in a North American academic EM department.
- Current SAEM and Simulation Academy member not currently serving on the Simulation Academy Awards Committee or Executive Board (with the exception of the Simulation Academy Change Agent Award).
Early Career Educator Award
- Recognizes an early career individual who is a rising star in the field of Emergency Medicine simulation.
- Nominees should demonstrate excellence in education efforts at their local, regional, and/or national level.
- Nominee must have completed residency within the past 10 years.
- Evidence of achievements, innovation, and dedication to academic emergency medicine through teaching and education-based scholarly activity, especially as related to simulation.
- National involvement and presence in academic emergency medicine (e.g., through SAEM or other national organization committees, research or scholarship consortiums, or advocacy groups).
- Activities demonstrating commitment to simulation based education.
Note: Any faculty nominee who took significant time away from academic medicine may be considered with explanation of lapsed time. Please include letter of explanation of time lapse if greater than 10 years from date of residency completion, but still considered “early” career in terms of accomplishments.
Distinguished Educator Award
- Honors a career demonstrating sustained excellence and contribution to simulation-based training in Emergency Medicine.
- Nominees should demonstrate excellence in education efforts at their local, regional, and national level.
- Evidence of sustained academic activity in the form of achievements, innovation, and dedication to academic emergency medicine through teaching and education-based scholarly activity, especially as related to simulation.
- National involvement and presence in academic emergency medicine (e.g., through SAEM or other national organization committees, research or scholarship consortiums, or advocacy groups).
- Activities demonstrating career-long commitment to simulation based education.
Simulation Innovation Award
- Recognizes an individual at any career stage who has demonstrated creative, novel, and transformative use of medical simulation.
- Evidence of achievements, innovation, and dedication to academic emergency medicine through teaching and education-based scholarly activity, especially as related to simulation.
- Nominee has developed an innovation using simulation that is expected to be transformative to educational, training, QA, or continued education in Emergency Medicine or a related discipline.
- Activities demonstrating commitment to simulation based education .
Simulation Research Award
- Evidence of achievements, innovation, and dedication to academic emergency medicine through research.
- Nominees should demonstrate excellence in education efforts at their local, regional, and/or national level.
- Evidence of achievements, innovation, and dedication to academic emergency medicine through research and scholarly activity, especially as related to simulation.
- National involvement and presence in academic emergency medicine (e.g., through SAEM or other national organization committees, research or scholarship consortiums, or advocacy groups).
- Activities demonstrating commitment to simulation based education.
Simulation Academy Change Agent Award
- Recognizes a Simulation Academy Member who has demonstrated transformational leadership in the service of the Simulation Academy.
- Nominees should demonstrate evidence of achievements, innovations, and dedication to the Simulation Academy.
- Nominees should have held an elected position or a committee chair position within the Simulation Academy for at least one year.
Simulation Trainee of the Year Award
- Honors an emergency medicine resident or simulation fellow who has demonstrated excellence in efforts toward simulation activities at the local, regional, and/or national level.
- Evidence of achievements, innovation, and dedication to academic emergency medicine through innovation, education, and/or scholarship, especially as related to healthcare simulation.
- Nominee demonstrates potential and sustained interest in a healthcare simulation career, especially as it relates to academic emergency medicine.
